JUNIOR CHAMBERS HOLD COAST CONVENTION AT NAPIER
A group of 18 members of the Gisborne Junior Chamber of Commerce were among 78 representatives of “Jaycee” organisations ,of the East Coast area who attended on Saturday a convention in Napier. The gathering, which was highly successful, marked the first appearance of delegates from Wairoa, where a new junior chamber is to be inaugurated this week. Delegations from Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington, Hastings Napier, Wairoa and Gisborne took part in discussions on various topics introduced by nominated speakers. These topics included project activities, the conduct of meetings, membership strength, national and local interests of members, group organisation, public speaking, social activities, and public relations and civic affairs. Among the leading speakers was Mr. S. Jacobs, Christchurch, national president of the movement.
This was the second annual convention of the kind. A comprehensive programme of hospitality,- was available to delegates, the event*]* including a dance at Puketapu, a midnight riverside picnic, and golf, tennis and swimming for the week-end. The Gisborne delegation at the convention was headed by Mr. H. Bodle, president, and Messrs. J. A. A. Nicholls and M. Andrews, vice-presidents. The Gisborne party returned home on Sunday evening.
