PRICES FOR GOOD WOOL FIRM BUT EASIER FOR FAULTY
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Mar. 8. The fourth Auckland wool sale was held yesterday with an offering of 30,214 bales of greasy wool. There was a clearance of 97 per cent, to commercial buyers. The offering consisted mainly of ewe and wether wool, with a small proportion of hogget wool and the usual percentage of pieces, bellies and oddments.
There was a good offering of lambs’ wool, which met with keen competition and realised exceptionally good prices. There was a marked difference in the condition and style of wools offered at the sale yesterday compared with those in the January catalogueThe wool yesterday was in the main “off” in colour and was partly skirted or unskirted.
There was a full bench of buyers representative of all buying countries. Competition was keen but erratic. Continental competition was again a factor in the market, but Bradford competition was most noticeable throughout the sale. Local mills secured wools suitable for their requirements. As compared with the preceding sales in the south, the market can be quoted as firm for average to good wools, but faulty wools were selling in the buyers’ favour.
