DRIVERS WARNED: DROP BOYCOTT OR BE DISMISSED
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. Mar .B. A decision to advise the Auckland Drivers’ Union that unless its boycott of certain firms is cancelled within 24 hours from 8 a.m. today the Auckland Master Carriers’ Association would give one week’s notice of the termination of employment to all drivers employed by its members was reached by the Master Carriers’ Association last night.
The president, Mr. 11. O England, said his organisation had reached the decision unanimously at a general meeting. The members represented 56 firms employing about 800 drivers. "Members, in general, were opposed to taking action against individual members of a union,” Mr. England said. “They considered that the union as a whole must be responsible for the imposition of the boycott which had resulted in the master carriers' present action.” Mr. England added that the drivers concerned in the master carriers’ decision were engaged in wharf cartage, the cartage of building materials, general cartage and fuel distribution.
