LIFESAVERS RESCUE 84 SYDNEY BATHERS
(11.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Mar. 7. In heavy seas during the week-end surf lifesavers rescued 84 people at Sydney beaches. Despite shark alarms and a southerly wind which brought heavy rain, 137,000 peoples attended the beaches. At Maroubra 35 people were rescued and the beach was closed except for a small area which was strongly guarded. No fatalities occurred at the surf beaches but a man was drowned in the Hawkesbury River while attempting to help a vvomar -"-ho was in difficulties.
