FERTILISER BLOWER MACHINE TESTED
WELLINGTON. Mar. 5. A high?powered blower for distributing lime and fertiliser on rough country was demonstrated at Akatarawa yesterday- Among the observers were the Minister of Agriculture. Mr. Cullen, and officials of the Agricultural Department. Powered by an air-cooled petrol motor, the blower shoott the fertiliser high into the air, in such a way that it falls on to the high ground. The inventorms claim that it solves the New Zealand farmers’ problem of fertilising steep country.
Referring to yesterday’s tests, Mr. R. B. Tennent, ah officer of the Agriculture Department, said that both the Minister and the department’s officials were quite impressed with the possibilities of the machine.
It would have to be fully developed, he said, but if the disadvantages were overcome it might very easily be of great value in the topdressing of the rougher type of country. At the least it should cut down considerably the time and labour needed for the job. Mr. Tennent pointed out that 'it was impossible to gauge at this stage just how useful the would be, as it depended largely on difficulties of design which have yet to be overcome.
