“AIRLIFT IS ONE OF WONDERS OF WORLD,” ATTLEE

(11 a.m.) BERLIN, March 6. The British Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Attlee, during his inspection of the Berlin airlift went to the Americancontrolled Templehof airport with the British Military Governor, Sir Brian Robertson. Mr. Attlee described the airlift as “one of the wonders of the world.” He said there had never been anything like it.

He met Berlin’s Mayor, Herr Ernst Reuter, and leading German officials. They discussed, among other things, the possible introduction of a western mark in Western Berlin and the recent Allied refusal to incorporate the city in the coming Western German Republic. Herr Reuter said that he was very satisfied with the results of the talk. Mr. Attlee called at Luebeck. where he spent 20 minutes inspecting British, New Zealand and Australian squadrons. He told officers and men: “I am much impresed with the thoroughness and regularity displayed by this base.”
