Huge Berlin Works Running Short Of Vital Supplies

(11 a.m.) BERLIN, Mar. 6. The mammoth Siemens electrical works, the backbone of Berlin’s resistance to the present blockade, can hold out only a few months longer unless the British and American air forces can bring in many bulky raw materials hitherto drawn from stocks in Berlin, according to an official of the firm. On November 8 last coal stocks ran out and since then the Berlin works have been living from hand to mouth Oh their annual monthly allocation of 2250 tons.

Now, other stocks such as iron, copper ore, special smelting sands, porcelain and plastics are also running out and none of these has yet been brought over the “air bridge.” In the eight months of the blockade Siemens has exported 2900 tons of electrical goods, ranging from flashlight bulbs to electrical mining machinery, super high voltage transformers and switch gear.
