RIVERSIDE ROAD.
Sir, —Our thanks are due to Mr. E. Upton and others for bringing to public notice the actions of the Borough Council in nor getting on with the job of opening up that portion of Riverside road damaged by flood last May. I agree that it is only a small job and should have been completed months ago. The major scheme, as Mr. Upton suggests, can wait till a later date. Even then it is very doubtful if a scheme on the grandiose scale suggested by the council is necessary. There is plenty of wid.h of public property to put in a bulldozer and make a serviceable road without all the suggested breastwork. Let a good planting of trees consolidate the fillings. It can be done quite effectively and quite cheaply. Now comes the expenditure of public money in sealing Domett street. The total cost no doubt exceeds what would be necessary to get the Riverside road job done. I suggest that the whole council makes an inspection of the job. Is it too much to ask the Mayor and councillors to take another look at this problem and to put a stop to such unnecessary expenditure?
