Gribben’s New Hammer Throw Record
(P.A.) HASTINGS, Mar. 7. One record was broken at the championship meeting of the Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay Athletic Centre in Hastings on Saturday. It was the 18-year-old hammer throw record of 111 ft. which S. Gribben (Gisborne) improved to 117 ft. liin. ' No track records were broken, due possibly to the stiff breeze.
The most successful athlete was J. Holland (Napier), who won the 220yds. hurdles, 120yds. high hurdles, high jump and hop, step and jump. Tire marathon over the same distance as the Olympic event, 26 miles 385yds., was won in 3hrs. 4min. 43.65ec. by W. F. C. Wright (Hastings), with JMatheson (Hastings), and R. P. Flint (Hastings), second and third respectively.
