French Atomic Official Arrested On Charge Of Betraying Secrets
PARIS, Mar. 3. A geologist named Pellaz attached to France’s Atomic Energy Commission has been arrested by the special officers investigating the alleged Communist espionage. Pellaz, who has been attached to the Atomic Energy Commission for a year will be charged before a military tri-bunal-with the unauthorised disclosure of military secrets. The Associated Press correspondent says that the commission to which Pellaz was attached is headed by the scientist Frederick Joliot-Curie who is a Communist. The British security authorities have been helping the French Surete Nationale in espionage investigations. The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior stated tonight that two groups had been uncovered, one military and the other civilian, but no link had vet been disclosed. The spokesman added that both groups appear to involve people outside France and the security police of other countries as well as Britain have been helping the French.
