Seditious Epitaphs On Tombstones Barred in France
(11 a.m.) PARIS, Feb. 10. French Mayors have power to order the removal from tombstones of epitaphs considered seditions, according to a decision of the Council of State, the highest French administrative tribunal. The widow of a man who was shot by sentence of a courtmartial in 1944 had inscribed on his tomb “Here rests an innocent victim taken from the affections of his family.” The local Mayor ordered the inscription to be removed and the Council of State upheld him.
