HUGE U.S. BOMBER TOPS 607 M.P.H. ON TEST
(10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. - 9. A 60-ton Boeing stratojet bomber yesterday set an unofficial transcontinental record, flying 2289 miles in 226 minutes at an average speed of 607.2 miles hourly.
The fastest previous transcontinental crossing was in 1946 by the Shooting Star which flew 2470 miles in 253 minutes.
