TASMAN RECORD FOR PASSENGER PLANE BEATEN
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. A passenger plane record for the flight from Sydney to Auckland was established by a British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines D.C. Six, which arrived over Whenuapai airfield at 6.37 this morning—four hours 17 minutes for the crossingon charter to Tasman Empire Airways. The record held by a Qantas Constellation was beaten by three minutes with a following wind of 18 knots. The plane flew over at 17,000 feet and was doing 320 miles an hour above Whenuapai today. Beofre landing it circled round the city to reduce speed. “We’re after another record — the two-way trip in 12 hours,” said Commander H. W. Moore, of Sydney. before the plane left again at 9.14 a.m. ,
