ABDULLAH WANTS PEACE WITH JEWS IN PALESTINE
LONDON, Dec. 20,
King Abdullah of Transjordan, in his first statement since the Jericho Congress declared him King of United Palestine and Transjordan, said he desired peace with the Jews, reports the Associated Press correspondent from Shune, Transjordan’s winter capital. King Abdullah asserted: “The time is ripe for a peaceful solution of the Palestine question with the Jews.” He said that although he did not think the other Arab nations agreed with this, “I hope for an early peace.”
“If the Arabs want to resume the fight against the Jews, let them do so,” he added.
Reuter’s Amman correspondent says that King Abdullah has appointed Sheikh Abdullah Meddin Jarrallah, the former Chief Justice of the Moslem religious courts in Palestine, to replace Haj Amin el Husseini as Mufti of Jerusalem, Jarrallah has been a prominent poetical opponent of the Mufti for a long time.
