ANTI-WAR FEELING GROWING IN U.S., SAYS “RED DEAN”

(11 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. “American people are much more alarmed about war than we are,” said Dr. Hewlett Johnson, the “Red Dean” of Canterbury, when he returned to London today from America. He added that Americans were beginning to realise that the atomic bomb will not end war.
“The campaign against war is making headway underneath among the common people in America,” he said. “This is illustrated by the re-election of President Truman.’ 1 Dr. Johnson said that Americans were very anxious to learn about the Soviet Union, but Americans still lacked the world attitude and understanding of Britain.
