British Textile Firms’ Chance In Australia
(9 a.m.) PERTH, Dec. 22 British industrialists had a wonderful opportunity to transfer their weaving and spinning plants and staff to Australia, said Mr. J. McGirr, Premier of New South Wales, who arrived by the Strathaird after two months in England.
He said that by shipping industries to Australia, British manufacturers would be close to their wool supplies. It would then be unnecessary to transport huge quantities of wool in bulk, including dust and burr from Australia to England This would save shipping space which could be used for the carriage of food.
Wool could be processed in Australia and woven into cloth and distributed to the world markets which would mean cheaper manufacturing costs and great industrial expansion in Australia.
