BACK-MARKER LEADS AT FINISH OF SURF RACE OFF WAIKANAE

Eleven competitors provided another interesting quarter-mile race off Waikanae Beach during the week-end in the series conducted by the Surf Section of the Gisborne Amateur Swimming Club for the de Costa Cup and one of the back-markers, B. McLean, came through in the concluding stages to gain the decision. Though generally calm, the sea rose in occasional combers to produce surf conditions. Results follow.
