BOY OF 12 YEARS DROWNED IN RIVER
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. A schoolboy aged 12 years was drowned in tile Wharehine River on Sunday. He was: Henry Ralph Hawthorne, a son of Mr. Sydney Hawthorne, farmer, of Wharchinc, near Wellsford. The boy left home at 11 o’clock on Sunday morning to take two farm dogs for a swim in the river. When he failed to return at 2 p.m. a search was commenced. It was not until 9 p.m. that his body was recovered from a darn in the river not far from his home. At an inquest held before the district coroner a verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
