STRONG BREEZE SENDS YACHTS ALONG AT GOOD PACE

With a strong westerly breeze to send them along, Gisborne yachts were able to show their paces on Saturday, when members of the Gisborne Yacht Club contested three trophies. On the down-wind leg of the course the boats made a fine show as they planed along the top of the water often with spray flying 7ft. high. Spinnakers were not generally in evidence, although two of the boats set this extra sail.

Gale set her small storm kite and managed to carry it to a definite advantage for a short time, but on the second time round they got into trouble and lost some ground. Ariel set a kite on the last leg of the course and successfully carried it across the finishing line.
