MANUTUKE CLUB HOLDS WIND-UP SOCIAL FOR YEAR

Last Saturday evening a successful social evening and dance was staged in the Manutuke Memorial Hail by members of the Manutuke Social Club. During the evening a short but interesting address was given by the president of the Manutuke Hall Association. Mr. F. K. Picrcy, who congratulated the social club on its very fine efforts to date in raising sufficient funds to line and renovate the supperroom of the : hall, which had been made available to the club for social evenings during the past two years.

Mr. Piercy made particular reference to work carried out under the leadership of Mesdames K. Hepburn and J. E. Daulton, past and present club leaders, and Mr. George Brown, who with many active members of the club had done a wonderful job of organising. He also referred to the high quality of the work which had all been free by male members of the club. Mr. Piercy then referred briefly to the early days after the First World War and to the promotion, foundation and erection of the Manutuke Memorial Hall, of which Mr. F. H. Forge had been the architect. Mr. Forge was in attendance at the function and opportunity was taken to make him a presentation in recognition of the services rendered gratis in connection with the recent painting of the hall. An appeal was made to those young people to patronise their own district social functions and so build up the foundations already laid by the elders in this valuable district amenity. Music for the function was supplied by Mrs. J- Hickey and Mr. R. Preston.
