‘BLUE BABIES’ TREATED IN FIRST YEAR OF GREEN LANE CLINIC

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. “All concerned with the carcliosurgical unit at the Green Lane Hospital are to be congratulated on the most satisfactory results obtained during the first six months of operation,” stated the superintendent-in-chief of Auckland hospitals, Mr. H. Selwyn Kenrick, commenting at last night’s meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board on the first interim report of the clinic. The report stated that of five “blue babies” operated on since July four had done well and one had died. The annual report would be issued to the Minister of Health and the medical press from which anything of interest to the public could be taken, stated the unit’s report. The intricate nature of the w'ork and the emotional tension of parents and patients rendered it higtly desirable that any publicity felt to be necessary should be kept to the minimum and should be as factual as possible. The consultation clinic had examined and reported on 41 patients since it began work at the end of July, continued the report. Fresh applications were coming in and there were 32 cases on the waiting list. Of the 41 cases two had come from Ashburton, two from Christchurch, one from Nelson, two from Wellington, one from Raetihi, two from the Waikato, two from the Bay of Plenty, five from North Auckland and one from Napier, the remainder being from Auckland city and district.
