NEW YORK, Nov. 13. Famous singer Gladys Swarthout last
night whipped out a degger and pre'tended to stab Metropolitan opera star 1 Raoul Jobin during their singing in the leading soles of the opera “Carmen” at Pittsburgh. ! Somehow there was a slip and the dagger, which was a real one instead of the customary wooden prop, went into Jobin’s wrist. Bleeding from the wound, Jobin sang ion but fainted when the curtain fell for the end of the third act. The audience was unaware of what had happened and Jobin came on and sang the fourth and final act. Then he was taken to hospital where five stitches were inserted. It was explained that Miss Swarthout borrowed the dagger at the last moment before the performance from Carlos Alexander, who played the role of Toreador.
