PRODUCERS WANT CUT IN LIQUOR DUTY

(11 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 16. The British Empire wine and spirit producers’ organisation has protested to the British Government against the high customs and excise duties on liquor. The organisation, on behalf of Empire and colonial producers, sent a memorandum to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, asking the Government to consider an early reduction in duties on liquor so that the public’s purchasing power will be at least equal to that in 1947.
