R.A.F. Plane Shot Down By Jewish Fighter
(10 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 16. The Air Ministry announced it believed that a Royal Air Force Mosquito of the Mediterranean and Middle East Command, which was reported missing, had been shot down by an Israeli fighter. The matter is being taken up with the United Nations’ mediator. The reports suggest that the plane was shot down on November 20 while on a high altitude training flight south of Tel Aviv. It is not stated if there were any survivors. The Israeli military spokesman said that the Mosquito shot down over Israeli territory on November 20 might have been British. The spokesman said the plane crashed into the sea off Tel Aviv and there were no survivors. Only small pieces of wreckage were recovered. They bore no nationality markings.
JEWS HALT TRUCE TALKS
(9 a.m.l TEL AVIV, Dec. 16. The Israeli military spokesman said the Israeli Command had issued orders to all commanders to halt all truce talks, says the British United Press correspondent. A spokesman said: “We are ready to discuss an armistice and peace but not a mere truce.”
He hinted that Israel intended to demand the complete withdrawal_ of all foreign armies as a prerequisite for armistice or peace talks.
