CHASED PLANE DOWN RUNWAY

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. How a driver arriver late at Paraparaumu airport and chased a Dakota down the runway in an effort to attract the pilot’s attention to the fact that his passenger wished to catch it was described in evidence in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. George Henry Burton, a factory foreman, appeared before Mr. A. A. McLachlan charged with driving a car on to the Paraparaumu tarmac,, thus being likely to imperil the safety of any aircraft and its passengers or crew. Counsel for the accused submitted that the regulations were ultra vires in that they arose out of the Air Navigation Act, 1931, and that a notice in the Gazette under the heading of an Order-in-Council could not create an indictable offence. ' The magistrate reserved his decision.
