IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE BY CHARTERED PLANE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 15. Forty-two immigrants from Britain arrived at Auckland today from San Francisco in a chartered airliner.
They travelled by sea to New York, thence by train to California. Similar groups will arrive fortnightly. Brought out by the Air Liaison Travel Service Company recently formed in England, the fare for the sea, train and air trip is £220 for an adult and £l3O for a child.
The company, which thus eliminates the shipping bottleneck to New Zealand is being flooded with applications by intending emigrants. After today’s party boarded the Queen Elizabeth at Southampton the crew walked of! in sympathy with the New York shipping strikers. The migrants remained on trio ship for a fortnight until the strike was settled.
All are cheerful and most are joining relatives in the Dominion.
