NO CHANGE IN CATCHMENT BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP
‘‘lf you are putting up a building you don't git rid of the head carpenter just when the job is showing good results. Here we have a job which is going ahead well, and this is not the time to get rid of our chief construction expert,” stated Mr. D. W. W. Williams proposing at the annual meeting of the P.B. Catchment Board yesterday the re-election of Mr. J. R. Hair as chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. Hair, who has been chairman since the inception of the hoard three years ago, had indicated that in his opinion it was time for the board to make a change, but his fellow-members lost no time in putting him back unopposed for a further term. Acknowledging hi.' re-election the chairman said it was usual to express appreciation of a renewed vote of confidence. He felt, however, that this was not strictly applicable to his own case.
“We sometimes find that men are appointed to these positions by default, as it were,” he continued. "I feel that this board has plenty of members who could replace me in the chair-—but who will not come forward.”
He could and would express keen appreciation of the co-operation given to him by all members and the staff of the board, added Mr. Hair. His period of office had been made ex-c"->fiip«iv pi-.-'-r.nt bv the harmony and efficiency with which every phase of the board’s work had been carried on. The board was not under the necessity of fixing an honorarium for the chairman, who indicated that he would be happy to continue on the same terms as previously—without remuneration.
