DEATH OF RETURNED SOLDIER ON FARM IN WAIROA DISTRICT
(S.R.) WAIROA, Dec. 15. Early last evening the police were called to a farm at Frasertown, where they found the body of Leonard Richard Burne, aged 36 years. He was married, and had three children. Not far from the body was found a bottle containing poison. Probably half a cup had been poured from it. An inquest was opened in Wairoa this morning before the district coroner. Mr. V. E. Winter. After evidence of identification the inquest was adjourned sine die.
Mr. Burne joined the armed forces in 1940 and was on active service for three years in Greece. Crete and Libya, being mentioned in dispatches for work at Crete. He was severely wounded in the chest and abdomen.
On his return he took up farming at Frasertown.
