DRESSED WEIGHTS OF LAMBS ON THE PASTURE TRIALS

Another phase in the pasture mixture trial at the facial eczema field research station at Manutuke was brought to a close yesterday with the killing of the lambs inspected on the hoof by farmers during a field day on Saturday. The officer in charge, Mr. J. E. V. Simpson, said the over-all average weight was 41.461b5. The individual groups of lambs killed out with their weights varying according to the amount of clover in the pasture.

The average live and dressed weights of the lambs were:—Pasture No. 1, short rotation mixture with cocksfoot, Timothy and red and white clovers, live-weight 821b5., dressed weight 39.5 lbs.: pasture No. 2, latest selection short rotation with white clover, 841b5., 42.5 lbs.; pasture No. 3, Italian ryegrass with Montgomery and board red clovers, 821b5., 401b5.; pasture No. 4, Italian ryegrass with cocksfoot and white clover, 891b5., 45.1ib5.; pasture No. 5, second selection short rotation with white clover, 871b5., 43.51b5. Pasture No. 6, short rotation mixture with cocksfoot, Timothy and red and white clovers, 801bs, 44.51b5.; pasture No. 7, perennial ryegrass with certified white clover, 811bs., 391b5.; pasture No. 8, perennial ryegrass with ordinary white clover, 781b5., 38.51b5.; pasture No. 9, long rotation ryegrass with certified white clover, 851b5., 43.91b5.; pasture No. 10, short rotation mixture, with perennial ryegrass, certified white clover and Montgomery and broad red clovers, 791bs, 38.51b5.
