AMBULANCE DRIVERS’ AWARD CLAIMS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. A five-day 40-hour week with a maximum of eight ordinary hours daily spread over 12 consecutive hours is being sought for ambulance drivers by the New Zealand Drivers’ Federation in Conciliation Council proceedings for a new award. Other claims by the union include a weekly wage rate of £7 11s for ambulance drivers and £8 for station officers, an extra allowance of 4s for night shifts or broken shifts worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a-m., three weeks’ holiday after nine months’ service, and free uniforms for all drivers.
