WEEKLY MINIMUM WAGE INCREASED: WATERSIDE WORK

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. The Waterfront Industry Authority, after considering submissions from the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union and the New Zealand Waterside Employers’ Association, has issued a decision in respect of a claim by the union for an increase in the guaranteed wage to £5/10/- weekly, and the exclusion of earnings outside the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.. Monday to Friday inclusive in calculating the wage. The decision is:

(a) The guaranteed weekly minimum payment under clause 51A of the commission’s main order, in respect of ports referred to in that clause, is increased from £5 to £5 10s weekly, operative from October 25, 1948. (b) The union's application for the exclusion of earnings outside the hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday inclusive, in calculating the guaranteed wage is declined. The Waterfront Industry Commission has issued an order giving effect to the above decision.
