PETROL SALES BY AUCKLAND FIRM: EIGHT CONVICTIONS

AUCKLAND, Dec. 14

A total of eight charges of breaches of the Oil-Fuel Emergency Regulations, 1939, was preferred against two men who appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., yesterday. Albert Graven, a petrol station proprietor, faced six charges of selling oilfuel without an authority under the regulations, and of making false returns in respect of petrol sales. Against Thomas William Oldham Bonnet, a petrol station manager, there were two similar charges.

Graven pleaded guilty to four charges and not guilty to the other two. Bennet pleaded not guilty. A traffic inspector, Mr. A. A. Roxburgh. said that he investigated sales of the Central Service Station, Avondale, of which the accused were proprietor and manager respectively. In the case of Bennet the magistrate imposed a line of £SO on one charge of disposing of petrol contrary to the regulations, and convicted and discharged him on the other. Graven Was fined £SO on the first charge, and convicted and discharged on the others.
