CHARTERED PLANE DELAYED. — The chartered Skymaster plane which had been scheduled to leave London for Auckland early in December with 60 passengers has been delayed until January 21 awaiting the issue of Government permits. The outward flight should take six days. The plane will carry other passengers to
Britain. CHRISTMAS MAlL.—Christmas and ordinary mail last week increased by about 15,000 letters passing through the Chief Post Office, Auckland, which is slightly more than the comparative week last year. Auxiliary staff, bringing the mail-room workers to 250, will operate from Monday. Beginning on December 15 last year, the mail-room handled an average of 255,000 letters a day, with the record of 321,000 on December 22, excluding packages or mail at suburban offices.
