Conciliation Commission For Holy Land

(10 a.m.)

PARIS, Dec. 12,

The closing session of the United Nations Assembly approved of a proposal deleting the United Nations’ partition plan and the Bernadotte report from the Palestine Conciliation Commission, says the Associated Press correspondent. The plan was approved without objection. the preamble merely saying the Assembly “has considered further the situation in Palestine,” and rejected the Polish proposal to increase the size of any Palestine Conciliation Commission to five members.

The vote on knocking out the partition plan and the Bernadotte report was 44* to nil and 47 to 6 against the polish proposal for which the Soviet bloc voted.

The Assemby by 35 votes to 15 approved of a three-member Palestine Conciliation Commission.

The Assembly previously accepted a Belgian proposal ti include Nazareth in the holy places to be protected under the United Nations’ supervision and under the proposed peppaanent international regime. The United States, Britain and France had campaigned hard at the night session to push the three-nation conciliation commission through against determined Soviet and other Slav opposition.

M. Vyshinsky, Russia, accusing Britain and the United States of pursuing a “zigzag policy,” suggested that Count Bernadotte’s proposal was “perhaps made under British and American instructions.” He added that Russia wanted a commission of at least five members and would not accept the limitation to three.
