SCHOOL CONCERT PACKS PUHA HALL
(Herald Correspondent.)
Residents of Puha and the surrounding area filled the Puha hall to capacity on Friday evening when pupils of the school staged a highlysuccessful concert.
The first part of the programme consisted of song scenas, unison songs, choral speaking, sketches and a drill display, with tap dances and a skipping dance by Ngaire Foster and a recitation by Victoria Taukamo, the items by the primer groups being particularly popular. In the second half, which was entitled “'On the Marae,” all the items were of Maori origin or adaptation and included action songs, pois, hakas and solo items which had an enthusiastic reception. Special credit was due to Mr. and Mrs. J. Te Pairi. Mrs. I. Tu and Mr. S. Te Kani for their work in training the children for the concert work and to Mr. Te Kani te Ua for his work as accompanist. At the close of the concert Mesdames Te Pairi and Tu were presented with posies from the children in recognition of the interest they had taken in preparing the entertainment. Dancing was later enjoyed keenly by the large gathering, Mr. L. Neill providing the incidental music. Mr. P. Brown, chairman of the Puha school committee, conveyed the thanks of the committee to all who had contributed to the success of the evening and acknowledged in particular a ladies’ committee’s effort in catering for the gathering. The concert yielded a return of over £45 to the school funds and this amount will be added to a fund for the provision of a film propector for the school.
