VICTIMS’ BODIES RECOVERED: BUSH PARTY EXHAUSTED
RUAHINE CRASH
(P.A.) PALMERSTON, N„ Dec. 13. The bodies of the three airmen who cashed in an Airspeed Oxford aircraft in the Ruahine ranges on November 30 were recovered by a Palmerston North party of police, trampers and Ohakea station airmen on Saturday. By nightfall last night the party had progressed about one-third of the way out on the western side of the ranges toward Rangiwahia, and had reported to Superintendent H. J. Joyce, Palmerston North, that it was hoped to complete the journey to Rangiwahia about 2 p.m. today. Superintendent Joyce made arrangements for pack-horses and reinforcements to leave Stewart’s Mill, at the back of Table Flat, at first light today. The men of the recovering party were almost completely exhausted by the rigours of their journey, and the difficulties of bringing out the bodies; but they were in good heart and well supplied by aircraft from Ohakea station. The inquest will be opened today.
