Floods today followed gales which sprang up suddenly last night and lashed many parts of England. A number of ships are aground and rivers have burst their banks. South Wales, reported losses of cattle and sheep with meadowlands flooded to a depth of six feet. In Cardigan people sought refuge in their upper rooms from the floodwnters.
