A. & P. SPRING SHOW RETURNS SHOW DECLINE IN PROFIT
While the income of the Gisborne Spring Show over the past three years has maintained a consistently high level of more than £2600, expenses have been mounting and the profit margin has been decreasing. That state of affairs was shown in a balance-sheet tabled at a meeting of the general executive of the P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. surpluses of the past three years' showing the following decline:— 1946, £798: 1947, £633; 1948, £465. Since 1941 the gate takings have increased from £687 to £1213. All items of income have doubled in that period, the notable exception being the returns from the ground space and privileges, which netted £292 in 1941 and £344 this yearOn the expenditure side the heaviest item was under the heading of prizemoney £1253 being paid out this year, as against £930 in 1941. Other items showed that a strict watch has been kept to curb excessive outgoings. The total expenditure over the past three years was as follows: —1946, £2034; 1947. £2195: 1948, £2154. The hire of car stands showed a return of £B4 10s not included in the surplus for the Show.
