Bus Drivers’ Appeal Over Pay Dismissed
(P.A.)
AUCKLAND. Dec. 11
A double appeal against the judgment by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., concerning the extra payment for bus drivers in a test case affecting work done on Sundays, when they are rostered off duty, has been dismissed by the Arbitration Court in a reserved decision.
The magistrate held that the two men concerned should be paid the ordinary time rate for Sunday as well as special double-time.
The Passenger Transport Company, Limited, by whom the drivers were employed, appealed against this judgment on the ground that double-time payment was only due. The Auckland road transport drivers, in its union appeal, contended that the rate should be special double-time payment, plus ordinary time and overtime tor the week as a whole.
