COCKTAIL HOUR A sociable evening was spent by several friends of Miss Margaret Isaac on Thursday when they were invited to her parents’ home in Fitzhcrbert street for the cocktail hour-

Miss Isaac, who wore a pink frock with a white pin-spot and graceful drape, was assisted by her house-guest, Miss Anne Newman, who had chosen a Eicon Paisley patterned suit. A floral background of hydrangeas in varying shades of pink and mauve had been arranged for the function.

AFTERNOON TEA CONCERT

The Tc Hapara Methodist Church was the scene of a charmingly arranged afternoon tea concert last Saturday. Bowls of gladioli and roses with daintily arranged vases of carnations and fern, decorated the hall, which was fiPed with an appreciative audience. During an interval in the programme a delicious afternoon tea was served by members of the ladies’ guild. Delightful songs were given by Mesrlames Meiklejohn and I. Morrow and Miss Barbara Perston. Misses Norma Gordon and Lesley Marshall were heard in duets, whilst Miss Cynthia Kane gave recitations. Mrs. J. Gordon accompanied the singers, and led a community sing as well as conducting a musical competition, for which Mrs. Morrow was awarded a prizeMrs. P. Brokcnshire, president of the guild, in a happy speech thanked the artists for their generous help and each one was presented with a floral spray by the secretary, Mrs. -J. S. Rutherford, who had organised the programme.

POPULAR TOURNAMENTS The popularity of card games has continued in the tournaments being conducted in the rooms of the Old Folks’ Association, Peel street, and record entries have been received recently. Last Tuesday evening the home of Mrs. L. A. McCallum was the scene of an enjoyable “handkerchief” party for Miss Valda Haley, a prospective bride. Co-hostesses were Mrs. D. J. Evans and Miss Jean McCallum, prospective matron-of-honour and bridesmaid, respectively, who assisted the bride-to-be to open her gifts. The rooms were artistically decoraated with hydrangeas and carnations. Games and competitions were enjoyed and Miss Haley was presented with a novelty sheaf of handkerchiefs. She wore a grey and red floral triple' sheer frock. Mrs. McCallum wore floral silk, Mrs. Evans chose dusky pink crepe and Miss McCallum was in mauve and grey floral jersey silk. On Thursday evening the “IBon Accord” was the scene of a “miscellaneous” party given by Mrs. E. Roderick and Miss O. Barnfather for the same guest of honour. Mrs. Roderick presented a novelty marry-go-round of culinary ingredients to Miss Haley. Mrs. Roderick wore a navy blue sheer dress with a white floral design on it. Miss Barnfather was in lime green crep. Miss Haley had chosen a small patterned blue triple sheer frock featuring three bustle frills. Enjoyable items were contributed by Miss Lottie Trowell and games and competitions were entered into by the guests.
