BRAKES DEFECTIVE IN NEARLY TENTH OF N.Z. VEHICLES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7Nearly 10 per cent, of the brakes of motor vehicles tested by officers of the Transport Department during the oast month in the course of a Dominionwide check have been found defective. This was stated by the Commissionei of Transport, Mr. G. L. Lauren son, yesterday. Mr. Laurenson said that so for the brakes of 5250 vehicles hod been tested. The. check would continue till the department’s officers were satisfied that their districts had been carefully covered. The more serious offenders would bo prosecuted-
It was essential that motorists should check their vehicles before starting on their holidays, Mr. Laurenson added, and he would stress the vital necessity of having good brakes Of 353 vehicles tested in the area from Hastings to Wellington. 43 had faulty brakes. A better result was obtained in the Palmerston • North area where, of 72 vehicles tested, only six had faulty brakes.
