Reception for Minister

To mark his first visit' to Gisborne since his elevation to Cabinet rank, Mr. F. Hackett. Postmaster-General and Minister of Marine and Transport, will be tended a civic reception at the Gisborne Borough Council chambers tomorrow. The reception has been arranged for 11 a.m. by the Mavor, Mr. N. H. Bull.

Toy Drive Response An excellent response to the toy drive organised by the Gisborne Junior Chamber of Commerce on Saturday made the house-to-house collection a worthwhile one. The toys will he distributed to under-privileged children in the district.

Accountancy Training The history of accountancy and the training of the present-day accountant was described by Mr. J.' M. Angus at yesterday’s weekly luncheon of the Gisborne Rotary Club in the Bon Accord Lounge. Mr. Angus traced accountancy from early Roman times, and described how accountants had eventually banded themselves together into the present Society of Accountants. The training received by an accountancy student and the examinations lie had to pass to become fully qualified were also detailed by the speaker. On the motion of Mr. R- G.
