REP. CRICKET TRIAL AT RUATORIA ABANDONED WITH SOUTH IN LEAD
(Ilcrakl Correspondent.)
Unsettled weather again marred the week-end sports arrangements for Ruatoria and the cricket match between North and South was abandoned before many South players had had an opportunity of showing their paces.'
The North team was selected from Matakaoa and Ruatoria, but the South side was not a trul y representative one as a number of Tokomaru Bayplayers were not available. The Waiapu Cricket Association, which had been in recess since 1940, has appointed Messrs. D. F. Cederwall and Whaipooti to select a team to represent it against a Poverty Bay side. It was disappointing, therefore, when play in the trial could not be completed. North took first strike and were dismissed for 85, D. F. Cederwall, former Poverty Bay rep., getting seven wickets for 40 runs and J. McArthur two for 37- S. Dewes’ score of 21 was a creditable effort and he was unlucky in being dismissed lbw when settling down nicely. The same Te Araroa player took two wickets for 28 runs before stumps were drawn at 4 p.m when the South score was 105 for three wickets.
The opening South batsman, W. Toroa, scored 64 before snicking a ball which Mcllroy snapped up behind tho stumps. Toroa's score included seven fours. Scores follow.
