Fernmoor Now About 1000 Miles From Port

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. Oct. 4. With over 1100 miles of the voyage completed the P. and O. motor-ship Palana has accomplished almost half of her voyage across the Pacific to Auckland with the disabled freighter Fernmoor in tow.

This progress has been made in the 10 days since the tow was begun on September 22 about 2200 miles from New Zealand.

Severe weather was again experienced by the two ships on Friday night. In a special wireless message Captain H. Spurr, master of the Palana, said the Fernmoor was unable to follow in the sea that was running and the two ships were forced to hove to for a time.

The tow was resumed on Saturday morning and at noon yesterday a day’s run of 134 miles had been logged. At noon yesterday the ships were in latitude 30 deg. 37 min. South, longitude 161 deg 29 min. West. Fine weather was then being experienced.
