Carbon Copy Wins AJC Derby In Photo Finish

Go a.m.) SYDNEY Oct. 4. After sharing the lead almost throughout, the New Zealand bred stablemates, Vagabond and Foxzami were beaten by the Victorian colt, Carbon Copy, in the A.J.C. Derby at Randwick on Saturday in one of the most controversial of photo-finishes. When the photos were being developed Ihe bookmakers laid long odds against Carbon Copy getting the verdict and, after the decision, the majority of punters still thought Vagabond had won.

Foxzami hit the lead n furlong from the start and Munro cased Vagabond into second place. When well into the straight Vagabond shot into what appeared to be a winning lead, but Carbon Copy swung to the outside and went straight for the winning post. Results:—

THE AJ.C. DERBY, 11 miles CARBON COPY. 8.10 (Breaslev) 1; VAGABOND, 8.10 (Munro) 2: ‘FOXZAMI, 8.10 (Fellows) 3. All thirteen started. Nose; neck. Time. 2.331.
