WOMAN DROWNED WHEN CAR RAN INTO CANAL
(P.A.) DARGAVILLE, Aug. 30. One woman was drowned and two other people had remarkable escapes when the car in which they were travelling capsized into a large canal, about four miles from Ruawai early yesterday morning. The woman drowned was Miss Dorothy Karen Bromwich, aged about 40. f The driver of the vehicle was Mr. H. W. Shirley, Ruawai. who, accompanied by his wife and Miss Bromwich, was returning home from Whangaroa. Mr. and Mrs. Shirley were able to extricate themselves after the car had plunged into the water, but Miss Bromwich was pinned under the water. Mrs. Shirley received cuts to both legs, and Mr, Shirlev a slight shoulder injury, but they were not admitted to hospital.
