METHODIST GUILD
The members of the Bright Street Ladies’ Guild met on Wednesday in the school-room, 29 members and two visitors being present. Devotions led by .Mrs. H. Poole opened the meeting. A letter'was received from Women’s Christian Temperance Union inviting members to their meeting in the Methodist schoolroom on August 31. Mrs. H. Poole voiced her appreciation of the way in which members had carried on the afternoon tea concert held during her recent unavoidable absence in Auckland. Although the attendance had been smaller than last year, the result had been most gratifying. Members were reminded of the guild concert on October 5 in the schoolroom. The programme was well in hand, especially the one-act play, which was in rehearsal. A fine array of gifts was on display for the various stalls at the November bazaar. Mrs. Seed, who has been visiting Gisborne, expressed pleasure at being able to attend meetings during her stay and was asked to convey greetings to the Hamilton guild on her return. The Rev. Selwyn Dawson, who has just returned from Japan, was welcomed to the meeting and gave an interesting, account of his impressions of the country, its people and customs, pointing out that 80,000 000 people lived there in a smaller area than New Zealand. The president, when thanking the speaker, asked him, in view of his coming marriage, to accept the best wishes of the guild for his future happiness. The tea hostesses were Mesdames H. Poole. L. Steel and L. Stichbury. The Rev. E. B. Chambers closed the meeting with the benediction.
