RUATORIA JUNIOR RUGBY REPS. OUTPLAY SIDE FROM TOKOMARU
(Herald Correspondent.)
The Ruatoria junior Rugby reps, at Ruatoria on Saturday outclassed the Tokomaru side and won by 23 points (seven tries, one converted) to six (two penalty goals). Ruatoria kicked off against a fair wind, and with less possession from scrums, did quite well to keep the score even until half-time. However, with the wind behind them, the Ruatoria forwards, particularly H. Keelan, G. August, S. Nepia, and H. Rowley, overran their opponents, and gave the home backs every opportunity to make up for lack of possession from set scrums, Four of the tries were scored by back movements and three through the forwards. H. Reedy was successful with one conversion and tries were scored by W. Te Rauna, M. Reedy. D. Ferris, J. Hongara, G. August. T. Te Maro, and N. Tawhai. For Tokomaru D. Williams. R. Chaffey and P. White played solid football in'the forwards, while the centre, Hadfield, the five-eighth, Potae, and the wing three-quarter, Collier, were most prominent in the backs. However, the Ruatoria backs made the more effective unit and it would be difficult to make any selection. Tokomaru’s penalty goals were kicked by D. Forrester and B. Chaffey. The teams were: Ruatoria. —M. Reedy, W. Te Rauna, P. Hogan, D. Ferris, R. Puha, J. Hongara, K. Katene, T. Te Maro, H. Keelan, N. Tawhai, H. Rowley, G. August, K. Te Rauna. S Nepia, J.
