WELLINGTON HOCKEY TEAM’S SUCCESS
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 31. Three rounds of the Dominion women’s hockey tournament for the K Cup and the minor section were completed yesterday Conditions were perfect although the grounds were heavy after rain at the week-end. The Australians accounted for Waira rapa yesterday by 11 clear goals. One of the best games of the day was between Wellington, the present holders of the K Gup, and Waikato, Wellington winning by three goals to one.
Although Wairarapa played grimly against Australia in the second round, the former team had no chance against brilliant forward play. The Australian inside forwards played aggressively, their ball control and accurate short passing proving too efficient for Wairarapa The Wairarapa goalkeeper, B. McCormick, made many fine saves, while A. Latham, right half, also played well. Goals were scored by M. Weaver (6), M. Campbell (3) and L. Ash (2). Australia drew a bye in the third round.
