CZECH “ESCAPE” GROUP UNDER ARREST
PRAGUE. Aug. 27.
The Czech security police announced that they had arrested 11 persons in the southern Moravian town of Znojmo, including the Prior of the Znojmo Monastery, Father Antonin Zemek, for alleged connection with an organisation directing the escape of political refugees. The statement said that the Peoples Party and other Roman Catholic organisations had set up an escape organisation. The Znojmo Monastery was the scene of underground activities where would-be escapees made contacts afid went into hiding until a border crossing was arranged. The escapees made contact with another monastery in Vienna, where they handed over reports from Czechoslovakia to German members of the ecclesiastical order.
